In a recent survey conducted by MB Weekly, it has been discovered that residents of Manhattan Beach are feeling the pinch of “tipflation,” spending nearly $500 a year more than they’d prefer on gratuities. The poll, which gathered responses from MB Weekly readers, sheds light on the discomfort and pressure many feel when faced with tipping options. On average, respondents admitted to reluctantly parting with $37.80 per month due to social expectations or awkwardness, tallying up to a staggering $453.60 annually in guilt-driven gratuities. A significant portion (26%) confessed to feeling consistently compelled to overtip.

Parking Dilemma: My husband and I have lived in MB for a year, and our rental house only has one parking garage spot. My husband has to try to find street parking daily near 16th and Highland. This has been a nightmare, especially about weekends and road closures. Over the year, we have accumulated over $700 in tkts (I never had a ticket before living here) cause sometimes there’s nowhere to park, he’s had to resort to parking at city hall, or he’s not out early enough to move the car when he works from home. We are likely moving because of this, but seeing if others have the same issue or have any pointers on where to park. I wish MB had residential street parking passes as Hermosa Beach does. This has been an enormous deterrent to us wanting to stay here. *Our moving truck even got a ticket as we were moving in cause we lived on a pedestrian street and had to move in through the front door while parked at the bottom of the street. Great welcome.

The 20th-anniversary Surfers Walk of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday, April 27, honored three surfers who made significant achievements. With family, friends, and surfing enthusiasts, David Nuuhiwa, Greg Browning, and Mike Balzer brought home replicas of the plaque that will be put on the Hermosa Beach Pier. Lido Di Manhattan Ristorante & Bar
I recently dined at Lido Di Manhattan Ristorante & Bar, and unfortunately, it fell way short of expectations. The ambiance felt as tired as a losing sports team, lacking vibrancy or charm. Service was practically non-existent, with a warmth that would make Frigidaire proud, leaving me feeling neglected and frustrated throughout the meal. While I hoped the food would redeem the experience, it only added to the disappointment. The Chicken Piccata, a classic Italian dish, failed to impress, leaving me underwhelmed with its lackluster flavor and presentation. Overall, Lido Di Manhattan Ristorante & Bar left much to be desired. It’s hard to justify a return visit with mediocre food and a noticeable absence of attentive service. If they want to stay in the game, they’ll need to step up their game significantly.

At Beachlife, Sting Rocks Hits:
Sting went effortlessly onto the stage at BeachLife Festival in Redondo Beach with his guitar strapped over his broad shoulders, and he looked very fit in a tight T-shirt and white pants. The crowd hardly noticed the former Police leader until he launched his enormous hit-filled concert with “Message in a Bottle,” a beach-loving fan favorite. “Just a castaway, an island lost at sea, another lonely day with no one here but me,” the 72-year-old icon sang as the throng sang along. The last day of the Festival was cancelled due to high winds.

- 704 calls for service
- 19 arrests
- 19 traffic collisions
- 67 crime reports taken
Notable Incidents:
** Between April 16 and 17 suspects pried open a locked wooden shed at Live Oak Park and stole a pitching machine that belonged to the Manhattan Beach Little League, MBPD said.
** According to police, a suspect stole the battery off of an e-bike that was chained to a metal bar. The bike’s owner told police they had stepped away and came back to the battery being gone.

Dear MB Weekly readers, the scenario of my troubled daughter-in-law Meadow’s impending attendance at her cousin’s wedding is a microcosm of societal norms and expectations clashing with individual expression and autonomy. Meadow’s embodiment of the hippie lifestyle, characterized by nonconformity and opposition to established standards, challenges the traditionalism embodied by her cousin in the business world. The tension between Meadow’s unconventional appearance and her cousin’s concerns are a real family problem. Trust me. Meadow’s tattoos, piercings, and unshaven underarms represent a departure from conventional beauty standards, prompting apprehension about her potential to disrupt the wedding’s atmosphere. Urrgh! Life is difficult.

Conservatives tend to view liberals as overly idealistic and impractical, dismissing their policies as naive and foolish. This sentiment is exemplified in the critiques of conservative commentators such as Ben Shapiro, who frequently deride liberal initiatives as detached from reality. Conversely, liberals often perceive conservatives as morally bankrupt, evil, and self-serving, attributing their policy stances to greed, callousness, and bigotry. This perspective is echoed in the rhetoric of liberal activists like Noam Chomsky, who condemn conservative policies as emblematic of systemic injustice. Additionally, the assertion that conservatives “think and speak” while liberals “feel and yell” underscores broader stereotypes about communication styles within each camp. To disagree with a conservative is then to be invited for a beer. To disagree with a liberal is to be called (loudly) a “Hitler-loving, racist hater!”
